Morning in Santa Fe comes bright and warm. What a city! Fred and I headed of to a little place called Tia Sophia's that a lady we ran in to recommended for breakfast. Really, really good. Across the street from it was this fantastic old theatre.
Walking back to the hotel, we stopped in at a couple of shops. Surprise, surprise who should we run in to in his civilian clothes? Danny Fenton! This guy does get around doesn't he?
"Thanks for watchin' and keep on watchin'!"
Before we left town, and even though we just had breakfast, we stopped in at Bert's Burger Bowl for a Green Chili Cheeseburger. Just as good as you'd expect it to be. Fred said the place reminded him of the old Rodeo Drive-In on number 10. Finally we were on our way and picked up The Mother Road south of Santa Fe. We passed through a couple of little towns where spelling . . . spelling maybe isn't their thing.
We reached Albuquerque and made a right turn. (You make a left if you're coming from California) and we were greeted with the sight of 9 Mile Hill. Yikes. The car made it though, with no problems at all.
The big trucks though, they still like to follow pretty close.
There's only one solution that Fred and I can think of, and this picture says it all!
Off of I40 again we wound our way through hills and vallesy and came across lots of cool little places. Here is a quick stop for water and photos in Budville, New Mexico.
Gallup is our destination though so we have to keep going. There's no time to be tempted by the many shopping opportunities along the way. Sorry, family.
The end of the journey for today comes in to view. One of the few cities to be mentioned in the song, Gallup, New Mexico!
And our home for the next 15 hours, the Hotel el Rancho. It is an incredibly cool, old hotel where many of the Hollywood stars stayed when they were filming westerns back in the good old days.
The lobby is incredible and the walls are covered with autographed pictures of all the old stars.
And the place looks great at night too!
Route 66 a dead end? I don't think so!
Tomorrow, off to Flagstaff with stops at the Petrified Forest, Joe and Aggie's, The Meteor Crater and Winslow, Arizona! Also, Eric Partridge joins the fun. Stay tuned!
"... and keep on watching!" Best chuckle I had all day.
ReplyDeleteWait...you mean I'm not getting moccasins? Or a t-shirt that marks the Continental Divide??? What a rip off!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you both keep up all this eating, the car will be too heavy to make it through the Mojave Desert. Would it kill you to consume a zero-calorie bottle of water instead?
